In West Mosul, large organisations like UNDP have been heavily involved in the process of getting many of the area’s schools back up and running and ready for kids to return to class.
It’s important not to forget the individuals who contributed enormous efforts to getting schools repaired and functioning again. Here we want to celebrate some of those people who worked so hard to get Mosul’s children back in class.
This is Ahmed, who paused briefly from his work repairing Sadiq Al-Ameen school to pose for a photograph. Sadiq Al-Ameen is in Al-Ganatir neighbourhood. It suffered damage in fighting and here workers repair a classroom ceiling.
Extensive fighting took place in the streets around the school and here a worker mixes concrete to help with repairs around the entrance to the school.
Close by, at Dar Al-Eilum school, Youssef, 24, and Abdul Khadr, 22, worked on repairs that helped get the school reopened.
