Humanitarian aid in Iraq, in Syria and in initial countries of reception of Syrian and Iraqi refugees (Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey)
Since 2012, France has supported projects set up by international organisations and NGOs in order to provide people fleeing fighting with emergency aid and to support host communities in Syria’s neighbouring countries. In 2015 and 2016, France will make a one-off contribution of 100 million euros to support the work of the United Nation’s humanitarian agencies in the region.
Receiving Syrian and Iraqi refugees
As reiterated by the French President, Europe must receive those who have a right to asylum with dignity. France has been receiving refugees as part of its European commitments, but also under a resettlement and humanitarian admission programme set up with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Support for victims of ethnic and religious violence in the Middle East
At the conference held in Paris on 8 September 2015, a national emergency fund of 10 million euros was created for 2015 and 2016. This will be used to finance work in the areas of housing, education, professional training, healthcare, mine clearance and the fight against impunity.
compliance with international humanitarian law
France is also committed to compliance with international humanitarian law, in particular with regard to humanitarian access and the prevention of indiscriminate attacks against civilians inside Syria.
