The Coalition FTF Working Group, co-led by Kuwait, the Netherlands and Turkey, held its latest annual meeting on 7 May 2019 in Ankara. 180 representatives from more than 50 countries and 11 international and regional organizations, such as the UN and the Council of Europe as well as civil society, participated in the meeting.
During the discussions, the participants shared their insights on the new trends on FTF travel and the current practices and obstacles on intervening their travel. Furthermore they discussed the current state of play on returning FTFs and the legal and administrative challenges with a particular focus on issues around their prosecution and accountability. The participants also conveyed their perspectives on a wide array of issues, including addressing radicalization in prisons.
In his keynote speech, H.E. Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, emphasized that no country can address the global threat of terrorism alone. He underlined the importance of effective international cooperation and timely information-sharing. Minister Çavuşoğlu also reiterated Turkey’s commitment to continue to contribute to the efforts of the Coalition in the same constructive manner as ever.
