Since 2014, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s law enforcement agencies have successfully dismantled networks used by BiH nationals aiming to travel to Iraq and Syria. Approximately 30 people suspected of terrorist acts in Syria and Iraq as part of Daesh have been arrested in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In 2015, the informal leader of the group was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for promoting and spreading Islamic radicalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, as well as for public incitement of others to join Daesh and participate in the activities organised by this terrorist organisation. By the end of 2015, BiH’s law enforcement had arrested eight further individuals suspected of criminal activity linked to Daesh.
