Austria is committed to countering terrorism, violent extremism and radicalisation by neutralising the efforts of Daesh.

Austria became a member of the Global Coalition to defeat Daesh when it was established in 2014 and strives to be an active contributor to the Coalition´s working groups’ efforts to contain Foreign Terrorist Fighters and support the reconstruction of the devastated areas in Iraq.

Austria is a vocal advocate for the rule of law and basic freedoms, such as the freedom of expression and the freedom of religion or belief. Radicalisation and terrorism target the very core of democratic states. Therefore, Austria contributes to the humanitarian assistance and the UNDP Funding Facility for Stabilisation.

Austria is an active host country to vital multilateral agencies where negotiations on the interventions made against Daesh are held. Austria has a long-standing history for providing a platform for mediating peace.
