Slovenia

As part of the Global Coalition against Daesh, the Republic of Slovenia (Slovenia) has been actively supporting the Iraqi Government’s efforts on the ground to ensure the territorial integrity and long-term stability of Iraq since 2016.

The key factor is the participation of the Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) in the non-combat part of the Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) since September 2016.
In the OIR, the SAF initially carried out training tasks with a large contingent for the Armed Forces of Iraqi Kurdistan at the Kurdistan Training Coordination Center (KTCC) in Erbil. During that period, the SAF donated weapons and equipment for a battalion of the Iraqi Armed Forces.

In the fight against Daesh, Slovenia is currently contributing a SAF officer to US CENTCOM in Tampa and two SAF members in Erbil, where Slovenia is working closely with the Federal Republic of Germany. The two SAF members in Erbil are serving in the Joint Operational Command Advisor Team – North (JOCAT-N/MAG-N).

Slovenia remains committed to the mission and objectives of the Global Coalition against Daesh. In this context, it has offered the Coalition Secretariat its readiness to organise politico-military consultations in Slovenia in 2024.
