Guiding Principles from the Global Coalition to defeat Daesh

We, the Foreign Ministers and principals of the Global Coalition, have come together in Kuwait City united in our determination to defeat ISIS/Da’esh through a focused, sustained, multifaceted effort. Readout of the Meeting of the Small Group of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh in Jordan

Senior diplomatic representatives from the Small Group of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh met today in Jordan to review our global campaign to defeat this terrorist organization. Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition Brett McGurk provided an update on progress in Iraq and Syria. He noted since our coalition was formed in 2014, Daesh has lost 95 percent of the territory it once controlled in Iraq and Syria. More than 7.5 million people have now been liberated from Daesh, 2.6 million displaced Iraqis have returned to their homes, and Daesh has not recaptured a single meter of the territory it has lost. He discussed the accelerated campaign that President Trump authorized in January and emphasized the need to intensify humanitarian and stabilization support to ensure these trend-lines continue, and Daes’s defeat is enduring.
