Statement by Ministers of the Global Coalition

Foreign Ministers of the Global Coalition met in Washington today at the invitation of U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to review and accelerate the campaign for the lasting defeat of ISIS/Daesh. We remain firmly united in our outrage at Daesh’s atrocities and in our determination to eliminate this global threat and overcome its false, destructive narrative. We reiterate our commitment to an integrated, multidimensional, and comprehensive approach to defeat Daesh and its global networks, fully recognizing this will require sustained, focused efforts.

The Global Coalition – Working to Defeat Daesh

Since its formation in 2014, the Global Coalition has worked diligently to reduce the threat Daesh/ISIS poses to international security and our homelands. Coalition members are united in common cause to defeat Daesh through a robust approach, including working by, with, and through local partners for military operations; supporting the stabilization of territory liberated from Daesh; and, enhancing international cooperation against Daesh’ global objectives through information sharing, law enforcement cooperation, severing Daesh’ financing, countering violent extremist recruitment, and neutralizing Daesh’ narrative.

Meeting of Ministers of the Global Coalition

On March 22, Secretary Tillerson will host the foreign ministers and senior leaders of the Global Coalition working to defeat Daesh/ISIS. This meeting will take place at the Department of State in Washington D.C., and will be the first meeting of the full Coalition, now at 68 members, since December 2014.

Meeting of Counter Daesh Finance Group

On 24 October 2016 Kuwait hosted the Counter Daesh Finance Group Meeting. Coalition countries, together with international community organizations, joined the meeting and provided details on current and upcoming activities aimed at tackling Daesh financing and reducing the group’s capability to access the international financial system.
